Episode 6 — The boat that came back empty

Dateline: 11 October 1973, pier, Pascagoula River dock, 1200 Pascagoula Street, Pascagoula, Mississippi

The Mississippi Press reported that two men left the pier at dusk in a skiff and were logged as overdue when they failed to return by 9:00 p.m. A search along the river turned up the empty boat adrift near the highway bridge. Both men were located the next morning at a residence on Pascagoula Street and stated they had been taken aboard an object that hovered over the water. The paper noted that no physical evidence was recovered and that the men were released after questioning.

The account repeated along the dock today does not mention a search or a statement. People say the skiff still ties itself to the same piling each evening and that the two men never stepped off it. The object is described as remaining under the bridge, and the water around the piling is said to stay warm after dark. No one in the retelling recalls an overdue log or a residence on Pascagoula Street.
